41-year-old man rescued by Armed Forces of Malta after suffering from chest pain.

A 41-year-old Maltese national was yesterday rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) after suffering from chest pain while aboard a Fishing Trawler 50 nautical miles north of Gozo.

At around 1pm on Sunday, the AFM Operations Centre was notified that a person was suffering from chest pain and required medical evacuation.

The case took place on a Fishing Trawler 50 nautical miles North of Gozo with the casualty being initially reported to have lost consciousness.

The army's Operations Centre in Luqa immediately dispatched an Alouette III helicopter to the position indicated by the fisherman in order to proceed with the medical evacuation.

The patient was transferred aboard the AFM helicopter and was subsequently conveyed to Luqa International Airport.

The fisherman, who had by then regained consciousness, was then rushed to Mater Dei Hospital by an awaiting ambulance for further medical treatment.
