Italian man admits to stalking woman

Man handed a suspended sentence after court convicts him of stalking a woman with who he was romantically involved

An Italian travel executive has been handed a suspended sentence and a fine after being convicted of stalking a woman with whom he was romantically involved.

The 41-year old man who resides in Hamrun pleaded guilty to charges of stalking, causing fear of violence and harassing the 33-year old Maltese woman.

It is understood that the man was in possession of “digital photographs which the woman did not want to be made public,” which he had threatened to release, however this was not said in court.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke handed the man a 1 year prison sentence suspended for 3 years, also imposing a €2000 fine, to be paid within three months. A protection and restraining order in favour of the woman was issued. The man was warned that any attempt to contact the victim would result in up to 6 months imprisonment in addition to that already suspended.

At the request of prosecuting inspector John Spiteri, the court also ordered the destruction of a mobile phone and two laptops which had been exhibited as evidence.

Lawyer Kris Scicluna was defence counsel. Lawyer Andrew Sciberras appeared in parte civile for the woman.
