A French couple have appeared in court on Saturday after police found them to have transported 2kg of cocaine in the woman’s underwear.

Caribbean-born Hendrick Albert Asaitie, 35, and Brigitte Clairssa Moese, 20, were arrested on Friday morning after their arrival in Malta on a flight from Paris. Several large packets of cocaine were found in Moese’s underwear.

The couple were arraigned before magistrate Gabriella Vella by police inspectors Kevin Pulis and Mark Anthony Mericeca, who told the court how the police had been tipped off about the pair and had tailed them to a hotel in Sliema.

“We followed them and after leaving the hotel and arriving in Sliema, the police decided to intervene. The pair took a taxi together and checked into the hotel together,” the court was told.

The court imposed a freezing order on all of the pair’s assets.

Bail was not requested at this stage.
Lawyers Mario Mifsud and Lennox Vella are appearing for the accused.
