University direct routes vanish under Arriva regime
Previously must-used and relied-upon direct routes to University from various areas around the island will come to an end when Arriva takes over.
Sunday newspaper Illum reports today how Arriva’s customer care confirmed that the University direct route which students previously relied upon to transport them to the Tal-Qroqq campus every day will be discontinued.
The direct routes will no longer be operating as from 3 July, the day which Arriva will launch its highly-publicised public transport service, touted as the answer to all of Malta’s public transportation ailments.
Asked by Illum about the University direct route discontinuation, its Customer Care department said that it was Transport Malta’s decision.
“Transport Malta chose the routes, while Arriva will solely provide transportation services,” the department said. Arriva also explained that instead of the direct route, commuters will have to use interchange hubs around the island.
Documentation circulated by Arriva illustrating the upcoming route changes have also omitted from listing Hal Ghaxaq – yet its customer care assured Illum that it is catered for under existing routes.
