Prime Minister Joseph Muscat held a bilateral meeting with his Jordanian counterpart, Abdullah Ensour.

This is the first time that a Maltese prime minister visited Jordan. Muscat said he wanted to send a strong signal in favour of cooperation in the Mediterranean region. The region, he added, will be high on the agenda during Malta’s Presidency of the EU.

The two prime ministers agreed on the importance of stability in the region and how both Jordan and Malta could help achieve this.

Malta is seeking to tap into new markets and allow for business developments between the two countries. Muscat made reference to the Jordanian investment which will see the construction of a new university in the south of Malta.

Ensour made reference to the Syrian crisis and its affects on irregular migration. He said, he expected the international community to do more, not necessarily by pouring in money.

Libya and the Palestine issue were also discussed.

Present for the meeting were also foreign affairs minister George Vella, economy minister Chris Cardona and tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis.
