In the Press: AirMalta to outsource 'non-core' operations

The Times of Malta has been informed that AirMalta is planning to hive off some of its non-core operations in order to become more efficient and cut operational costs. Senior government officials involved in negotiations with Alitalia and Etihad said that the engineering department and the ground-handling operations had been earmarked, but other areas were also being discussed.

Economy minister Chris Cardona said during a visit to two factories in Bulebel industrial area that in the first two years under the current government, local companies have invested more than €176 million, an average of €88 million a year. This, he added, was double the investment that was made in the last year of the previous government's reign.

The newspaper reports a registered industrial dispute made by Medical Association Malta (MAM) about its concerns regarding the deterioration of the health centres. The MAM claims that employee morale is very low and several issues have been placed under the rug, as well as specialists leaving the sector and waiting lists reaching unacceptable times.

The newspaper is informed that White Rocks Development Company is the preferred bidder for the White Rocks project in Pembroke. The consortium of local and foreign companies, together with the government, are holding discussions intended to lead to an agreement on the development of the project.
