Too many parking fines for Paceville, St Julian’s delivery vans, Chamber says

Malta Chamber confident that with the authorities’ support and with the implementation of proposals, a long term solution will be found

The Malta Chamber is currently in discussions with the authorities to find a long term solution to the increasingly acute problem faced by businesses delivering their goods in the Paceville, St Julians area.

In a statement issued today, the chamber said it has met with the Local Enforcement System Agency (LESA), and the St Julian’s Local Council, to find a solution and address the lack of adequate infrastructure, such as un/loading bays which is resulting in numerous fines being received by businesses.

“Such bays are drastically outnumbered by the number of establishments and the scale of the operations of the establishments in question,” the chamber said.

It added that the situation is further aggravated by the unrealistic timeframe of three minutes during which a driver is allowed to park the vehicle and affect the necessary loading or unloading without receiving a fine.

Presently, once the 4th minute commences, the CCTV cameras, issue a fine to the commercial vehicle in question.

“Such practices are placing further unnecessary strains on business,” the chamber said adding that it is confident that with the authorities’ support and with the implementation of the proposals, a long term solution can be found.
