Four years on...Qawra land still on GO’s books

Negotiations to transfer land in Qawra currently on telecommunications and internet provider GO’s books are still underway and lacking any formal conclusion.

Answering a Parliamentary question from Gino Cauchi, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech confirmed that while the Qawra property is still on GO’s books, “negotiations are underway which are expected to be finalised shortly.”

He added that however “there is no formal conclusion.”

When the government sold its Maltacom (now GO plc) shares to Tecom in, it had signed an agreement stating that by November 2006, the government would have moved a resolution in the House transferring to GO the title over land occupied by a number of telephone exchanges while the company was to transfer the Qawra site to the government.

The land in question is roughly the size of two football fields, and has an estimated market worth of between €23 and €35 million.
