Pilots Association rejects E&Y restructuring plan for Air Malta

Airline Pilots Association says no to Air Malta restructuring plan by Ernst & Young

The Airline Pilots’ Association (ALPA) has shot down the restructuring plan prepared by Ernst and Young on behalf Air Malta. In a statement, ALPA declared that details gathered in compiling these restructuring plans are “distorted” therefore,  rendering these plans “indistinct.”

"ALPA does not support this arrangement. We believe these plans will not recover Air Malta but it will only destroy the company once and for all. We strongly feel it is not in the interest of Air Malta, its employees or the major shareholder. (The Maltese)," it said.

The union did not disclose further details.

"We have drafted a plan to the restructuring committee however this was quickly disregarded. We have offered our services to both the company and the government, nevertheless this was completely ignored," the Association stressed..

"Our plan would be to organize and ensure company assets are used up to the maximum. It does not involve the company going into big debts. We have even tried to contact the Prime Minister to inform him of what is going on, however we have not had any response," the statement concluded.
