Traffic contraventions issued by all entities between January 2016 and February 2019 amounted to 1,185,009.

This information was supplied by Justice Minister Owen Bonnici to a question by Nationalist Party MP Robert Cutajar.

Most of these were issued by wardens with 230,037 issued by them in 2017 alone. In the three months of 2019, wardens already issued 23,403. The majority of these contraventions took place in central Malta.

The information tabled in Parliament by Bonnici doesn't specify whether any of these contraventions were petitioned.

In 2016, the Police issued a total of 54,632. The number dwindled to 31,534 in 2018.

The number of speed violations numbered 73,241. This number decreased to 56,039 in 2018.
