A traffic accident in Burmarrad leaves one taxi driver dead and another seriously injured

A 31-year-old taxi driver from Safi died in hospital after a head-on collision with another taxi in Burmarrad last night.

The victim was driving his taxi, a Peugeot 207. He collided with another taxi, a Peugeot Expert Travel van, driven by a 59-year-old from Zejtun.

The taxi van had four Scottish passengers aged between 18 and 24.

Several ambulances were called on site to assist the victims. All persons involved were taken to Mater Dei Hospital for medical treatment.

The police said the 31-year-old died in hospital and the 59-year-old was certified to be suffering from serious injuries.

The four passengers sustained slight injuries.

A magisterial inquiry is underway and police investigations are ongoing.
