Trapper filmed by CABS operating illegal clap-netting site • Police investigation underway

A team from the Committee Against Bird Slaughter yesterday filmed a Gozitan trapper operating “a massive illegal clap netting site to catch protected stints and sandpipers”.
According to CABS, the man was a repeat offender. He was reported to the police, following which "an arrest took place" on site. The net, an illegal bird caller and several plastic decoys were confiscated.
Contacted by MaltaToday, the police's communications office confirmed an investigation was underway but "no one was arrested".
It confirmed that the police descended on site, far edge off Kercem, at around 8am.
A photo posted on Facebook by CABS shows the poacher at his trapping site, shortly before the police arrived.
CABS Wildlife Crime Officer Fiona Burrows praised the police for its swift action. The man will be arraigned in court in the coming days, it added.
