Gozitan families to receive water-saving kits over next two months

As part of the Water - Be the Change campaign, Gozitan families will be receiving a gift pack that will include several objects aimed towards the preservation of water

Gozitan families will be receiving dedicated water-saving household kits during June and July, with 12,000 families set to receive these kits.

The initiative will see every residence receive a voucher and gift pack, the latter of which includes several objects aimed towards the preservation of water.

These items could then be redeemed from a mobile unit that will visit a different locality every week. Families will be able to redeem the voucher and gift pack during the particular week advised.

"With the installation of this equipment, along with daily practices for the efficient use of water, a four-member family can reduce water consumption by 40,000 litres per year,” explained Minister for Energy Miriam Dalli.

Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds, said that the project's investment amounts to €24.4 million, of which €21.2 million is paid for through EU funds.

These funds are going towards the Water - Be the Change campaign, which strives to increase awareness on water conservation.

Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri said that the purpose of this investment is to nurture a water conservation mindset in children from an early age, and that the Ministry for Gozo will continue to welcome these types of investments.

100,000 water-saving kits are expected to be distributed throughout the campaign's lifetime.

This initiative was launched by the Ministry for Energy, the Ministry for Gozo, and the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds.
