Industrial tribunal chairman resigns

Civil servant at the heart of a police investigation has stepped down from his post as chairman of the Industrial Tribunal.

One of the chairmen of the Industrial Tribunal, George Borg Cardona, has resigned from his post the Justice Ministry announced this evening.

In its brief statement, the ministry did not divulge the reasons as to why Borg Cardona resigned but simply said that Justice Minister Chris Said had received a resignation letter from Borg Cardona.

Borg Cardona - who also presides over the Police Licences Appeals Board - is currently being investigated over the alleged falsification of receipts.

The investigation was triggered after a medical consultant confirmed under oath that receipts presented by Borg Cardona for medical services to his grandson were forged.
