Marsa power station's boiler to be reactivated
Boiler No. 8 at Marsa to come back into operation in coming hours after maintenance works
Marsa power station's boiler no. 8 is expected to start operating in the coming hours following necessary maintenance works, the government announced in a statement.
Maintenance works were being carried out on the boiler for the past four months. The boiler will not be operating at maximum capacity, the government said, saying this would create smoke in the Marsa area for two days.
After boiler no. 8's operation resumes to normal, boiler no. 7 is next in line for deactivation for maintenance works.
Enemalta said that the boiler no. 7 maintenance process is expected to last between two to three months, after which the boiler will be kept on standby for the summer period during which electricity demand is expected to increase.
Government said it "remains committed to decommissioning the Marsa power station, as well as the old Delimara power station - known as the Phase 1 plant - according to European obligations."
