Troubled lawyer Patrick Spiteri assaulted in MCP car park
The debarred lawyer Patrick Spiteri was assaulted in a car park elevator, outside Valletta.
Eyewitnesses said Spiteri was assaulted by two men in the elevator at the MCP car park, two days ago.
The extent of Spiteri’s injuries are unknown.
MaltaToday confirmed that two reports, one by Spiteri and the other by the other party involved in the altercation, were lodged at the Valletta police station on Tuesday.
This was an incongruous sight for Spiteri, last reported to be under house arrest in Lucca, Italy, over the alleged fraudulent bankruptcy of the Idroplax factory.
Spiteri’s notoriety stems from a series of fraud charges. A tax expert who devised the Labour government’s Customs and Excise Tax (CET) in 1996, in 2002 Spiteri was charged with fraud for conning the Elizabeth Pierre Pierre Albert consultancy firm in Brussels into buying 25% of their equity.
Spiteri was suspended perpetually from the bar after being found guilty of falsification in 2004 and sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment, suspended for four years.
Spiteri was again charged in court of defrauding Oscar-winning songwriter Leslie Bricusse, whom Spiteri had advised to invest GBP150,000 in local bonds.
