[WATCH] Foundation to boost support services following government cash injection

St Jean Antide Foundation, a social care services arm of the Sisters of Charity, is to receive €165.000 in government funding, following an agrrement signed today with the Ministry for Social Solidarity.

The funds will run through to 2021. The ministry will also help in the engagement of two social workers to complement the foundation's current staff.

The St Jean Antide Foundation offers support services for a wide range of issues, including mental health and domestic violence, for both individuals and families.

In the last 10 years, it has provided support services to more than 5,436 individuals and 3,418 vulnerable families. 

“The work done by these foundations makes an immense difference which is often looked upon by the rest of society,” social solidarity minister Michael Falzon said. “Let us remember that the worst-affected victims are the children in these situations. That is why we must continue strengthening these services."

Foundation CEO Nora Macelli said that the foundation offers its services in Tarxien, Rahal Gdid, Fgura and Santa Lucia. 

Between 2010 and 2017, 43% of the families supported by the Foundation lived in these villages.
