An AFM patrol boat has rescued 87 migrants off Lampedusa and will bring them to Haywharf later on Wednesday morning.

The AFM said that it was notified of a wooden boat with 87 migrants on board, on Monday by Rome recuse centre. AFM then located the wooden boat south of Lampedusa.

An Italian naval vessel operating under Frontex, the EU border control agency, in the vicinity, was dispatched to render assistance. However, the vessel was unable to provide any support due to technical faults.
