12 killed in Spain train crash
Train slams into young revellers as they crossed the tracks
At least 12 people have been killed when a high-speed passenger train crashed into a group of revelers crossing a railway track in northeastern Spain.
The accident happened late last night at the Castelldefels Playa station south of Barcelona. Another 13 were injured.
According to Spanish media, the dead and injured were mostly youths who were celebrating the annual San Juan (Saint John) mid-summer festival, which includes bonfires, fireworks, concerts and dances, often on the beach.
It appears that the youths had just arrived at the station on another train from Barcelona and were crossing the tracks to go to the beach, avoiding a pedestrian underpass.
