British PM’s wife gives birth to third child

The wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron gave birth to a baby girl yesterday while the couple were still on holiday in Cornwall, making the new-born only the second child to a serving British premier in 160 years.

The baby was reportedly delivered by caesarean section at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, weighing 2.7 kilos.
Samantha Cameron, 39, was driven to hospital by car, arriving at around 8:00 am, and gave birth to the baby girl at around noon.

The baby was announced in March, and not expected to be delivered until September.

Prime Minister Cameron, 43, said "She'd been having contractions for the last couple of days on and off and thought this was time to come to the hospital to check out and see if everything was fine."

The couple already have a daughter, Nancy, 6, and a four-year old son. Their first child, Ivan died suddenly at the age of six last February after suffering from cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy

The Conservative party leader Cameron said Nancy and Arthur were "thrilled, bouncing up and down, and dying to say hello to the new baby".

A name has not yet been decided for the baby, but Cameron said his wife was going through a book of Cornish names to have as a middle name.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has been in day-to-day charge of the government while Cameron has been away.
