19 dead, 2 survive in Congo air crash

At least 19 people have reportedly died in a plane crash in the western Democratic Republic of Congo, and two people have survived.

The Let-140 aircraft crashed after reportedly running out of fuel before landing at an airport in then Bandundu province. The crash occurred at around 12:00 local time.

The aircraft was operated by a private Congo company called Silair.

Congo’s airlines are considered to be amongst the most unsafe in the world, where the European Commission of Transport has banned 39 carriers from entering European airspace due to concerns of passenger safety.

Over 250 airlines have been blacklisted by the European Commission, including some from Angola, Sudan, Zamibia and Sierra Leone.
