Oscar Pistorius awaits sentencing for fatally shooting girlfriend

Oscar Pistorius returns to South African courtroom to await sentencing for fatally shooting his girlfriend last year

Oscar Pistorious has returned to court once again, as South African judge Thokozile Masipa is to today begin delivering his sentence, after finding the athlete guilty of culpable homicide last month.

Pistorius, who competed in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a bathroom door on 14 February 2014, but was cleared of murder in September.

Having denied all accusations of murder and insisted that he shot Reeva by mistake, he now faces up to fifteen years in jail for his actions, however legal experts argue the maximum prison time is rarely handed out.
