Two pilots of an airliner operated by Indian national carrier Air India have been suspended after reportedly fighting inside the cockpit of their aircraft as the plane was about to take off.

Sources report that the incident took place in the western Indian city of Jaipur on Sunday evening, when the co-pilot of flight number AI 611 physically attacked the pilot of the Airbus A-320.

It is understood that the flight subsequently left for the Indian capital of New Delhi after the pilots agreed to operate the passenger plane "in the interest of the airline".

In spite of having suspended both pilots, Air India has played down the incident, calling it a minor argument between the captain and the co-pilot.
