British newlywed accused of killing bride
Shrien Dewani, whose wife Anni was shot dead last month whilst they were in Cape Town, was arrested by Scotland Yard extradition officers on suspicion of conspiring to murder her on their honeymoon.
The arrest follows a court hearing in South Africa, during which a taxi driver said he was offered £1,300 by Dewani to kill his wife. Togo’s allegation formed part of a plea agreement drawn up with prosecutors at the court, where he was jailed for 18 years for Anni’s killing.
Anni, a 28 year-old Swedish, was shot dead on November 13 after the couple’s taxi was hijacked in Gugulethu township, Cape Town.
The husband was released along with the driver by the carjackers. Dewani returned to England after the murder and has always denied any involvement in his wife’s death.
