Airlines face another test with major snowfalls in NY

More than 1400 flights have been cancelled in NY after severe blizzards that have hit various US states

The US National weather service  has  predicted snowfalls of 35 cm to 45 cm in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut today Monday and this had led to the cancelling of over 1400 flights.

Many airlines are already suffering from the brunt of a bad year, the volcanic eruption in Iceland and the recent snowfalls in Europe.

Blizzard warnings — official forecasts of huge snowfalls with sustained winds of 35 miles an hour — were in effect from the Carolinas to New England. North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey declared states of emergency, and New York, Philadelphia and Boston declared snow emergencies, imposing parking bans on major thoroughfares and urging residents to stay off the roads.
