According to Chinese state media, "the reports were totally false. There is no such plan," Communist party's provincial committee spokesman Guo Yuewen was quoted as saying by the official China Daily on Saturday.
The reactions come in the wake of media reports allegedly blowing the lid on a project that aimed to unite as many as nine urban areas -- including both Guangzhou and Shenzhen -- into one unified megalopolis with a population of 42 million, according to the China Daily.
