Manchester University too strong for Marsa

Over the Weekend the Marsa C.C played against Manchester University in a two game series.

In the first game the Marsa team were looking to bowl the University out when after 30 overs they had them at six down for 130 runs and were thinking of an easy victory. What happened in the next ten overs was an onslaught on the Marsa bowlers where 114 runs were scored, mainly from the blade of J.Farquhar who fell two runs short of a century and had blasted five sixes and three fours along the way

D.Phillips also batted in the last ten overs just missing out on a half century, also by two runs and smashed four fours and two sixes along the way. T.Atlanson produced twenty four runs which included two massive sixes. At the end of the overs the University totalled 244 runs. For Marsa Mike Caruna and Sarfraz Ali took three wickets each while, Ravi Sharma, Gordon Hewitt and Kevin Krishna took a wicket each.

After such a blitz the Marsa team tried the same and were bowled out for 112 runs with Ravi Sharma top scoring with twenty two runs of the bat,  extras were twenty four.

For the visitors, J.Cooley, R.Donelly,M.Wells and J.Farquhar took two wickets each while M.Elcox and D.Lyons took a wicket each. Manchester 1, Marsa nil.

In the second game a twenty over encounter, the University batted first again and the Marsa bowlers did not find the encounter to pretty with the visitors making 184 runs. Carter top scored with sixty one runs and was well aided by M.Wells (thirty four runs), Phillips (twenty five runs) and Rogers  (twenty runs). For Marsa Malcolm Crabbe, Joy Ghoseroy, Frank Spiteri, Daniel Galea and Chris Naudi managed to take a wicket each.

The Marsa team put up a much better showing then the previous day scoring a total of 144 runs, still not enough to win. Frank Spiteri batted well top scoring with sixty two runs which included eight boundaries and two sixes. Andrew Naudi chipped in with twenty six runs. For the visitors, Huddart,Rogers,Atkinson and Thomas all took a wicket.

Manchester University win the series two to nil.

 

Next Weekend the Marsa team play against new touring team Turville Park C.C  in a three game series starting with a t20 game on the Friday. .
