Frans Deguara re-confirmed ASMK President

On Friday 19th July 2013 Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) held its Annual General Meeting at the Kirkop Sports Complex. Everybody’s attention was drawn on the new ASMK Leader.

Frans Deguara and Charlie Camilleri sat for the Presidency election. Deguara won the leadership seat again for the next two years with 55% votes in favour to Camilleri’s 44%.

There was no election campaign from Deguara’s side as it was felt that he who wins the leader’s seat should win on the grounds of his performance during his term in office. Frans has held this position since 1994 and has worked over a number of issues which are still in practice to date. Lately, Frans has worked hard to include the ASMK membership in the International motorcycling federation FIM through the European Federation FIM-Europe who represents all motorcycling sport in the European countries.

In the next few days the Association members will be voting again to elect other Executive members and elect the respective Section committee members. So far, Charles Camilleri still holds the post of Assistant-Treasurer of last year’s posting. The ASMK members have also elected their representatives within the MMF during this AGM. Johann Pace won the MMF seat which was also contested by Godwin Martin to represent the Off-road cars and Frans Deguara won the other MMF seat also contested by Charles Camilleri to represent Offroad Motorcycling.

Next elections are to be held within a few days to elect the post of Vice-President which is contested by John Micallef and Edward Ciantar.  The post of Assistant Secretary is being contested between Francis Azzopardi who held this post for the last 2 years and Jonathan Sciberras.

The Autocross and Motocross members will be voting too to elect their particular section committee members. Each member should obtain 50% of the total votes cast to win his seat in the section committee. The voting is expected to take place late next week.
