It is the 9th year that this Mass is celebrated annually in November for the repose of souls of ex-ASMK members.

The Motocross riders launched the day’s program by performing the Warm-up Session and the first Heats of the first Championship event. Class ‘A’ Clayton Camilleri who always makes a good start on his KTM won the three Heats on the day. He was followed by brothers Paul, Chris and Trevor all on KTM 250cc bikes. All riders performed very well as they were very well prepared in practice sessions for this event. As Chris and Trevor missed a Heat from the three scheduled Stefan Dimech took advantage and finished 3rd overall.

Kyle Camilleri riding a Suzuki RM 85cc also mastered the day’s racing. Though he missed first place on one Heat yet he won 70 points from the 75 available thus he won Class B on the smallest machine. Kyle was followed by new-comer to Motocross Pierre Jourdan riding a KTM 150cc with 64 points. Hughston Ciantar riding a Kawasaki 250cc won 3rd overall with 54 points.

The Autocross drivers were battling their 3rd event of the National Championship on a Counter-clockwise track which is faster along the straights but slower in one particular corner. During the qualifying heats only Matthew Borg on an Opel Nova won the three Heats and secured his place on the Final ‘A’ 9 Laps race together with Vince Farrugia on a VW Polo, Melo Zammit on an Escort Mk3, Josef Grech on a Fiesta Mk3 and Mario and Andreas Scicluna both on Opel Corsa.
From the start Farrugia made a very good launch but at the first corner Zammit and Scicluna Mario came abreast to Farrugia. Zammit found himself in the best location and took advantage of this resulting in Zammit leading the race and very closely followed by Farrugia and Scicluna. All drivers controlled their vehicles perfectly at speed but Borg increased pressure on Scicluna in 3rd place who was overtaken after a Lap. Later Scicluna hit Borg’s Nova and was forced to retire for having his front bonnet coming open. All drew their attention on Borg as he started adding pressure on Farrugia’s Polo but accidentally Borg hit the tyre barrier and ended driving on two wheels when his Nova rested on the Polo and returned safely back on the ground. Besides all this the 3 front group drivers held their positions right to the end when Zammit crossed the Finish Line marginally ahead of Farrugia and Borg respctively.

Class ‘B’ Startline was composed of Gordon Johnson on a Peugeot 205, Malcom Borg and Ryan Scerri both on Opel Corsa, Andrew Pisani, Josef Abela and Philip Joe Vella all three on Opel Nova 1400cc cars.  Right from the start Abela took the lead with Pisani and Johnson on his side but after the first corner Abela took the lead to the end of the race. Close behind Johnson and Vella followed. Later, while Johnson attacked Abela, Vella took advantage of the small space created and won 2nd place in no time. They all drove at a very fast pace right to the Finish Flag with Abela ahead of Vella and Johnson well grouped together. Pisani and Scerri placed 4th and 5th respectively.
Besides all these races at ASMK Ta Qali, the Trials bikers will be performing another competition next Sunday 17th November.
