ASMK autocross and motocross races continue this Sunday

Following the Christmas and New Year season’s break ASMK will commence with the second phase of Autocross races for Maltese and Gozo drivers together with the Motocross riders.

The Autocross drivers will be running their 6th event in a counter-clockwise direction but the Motocross riders will be competing in their 2nd event of the ASMK-Pasta Poiatti sponsored National Championships.
 
A brief look into the present situation in the different classes reveals some interesting placings for the experienced and novice competitors alike.
The National Autocross Championship scale shows that Gordon Johnson leads the field with 66 points on his Peugeot 205 (71). Present runner-up is Christian Mark Galea with 61 points on his Fiat Ritmo while Melo Zammit is 3rd placed on his Escort Mk3 with 60 points. Matthew Borg follows with 52 points on a Vauxhall Nova.
 
Gozo Autocross leader Domenic Zammit on an Alfa-Sud leads with 36 points ahead of Joseph Agius with 18 points and Joseph Vella’s 13 points. Both Agius and Vella drive a Ford Fiesta 1400cc. It is interesting to note that Christian Apap on an Escort Mk.2 has started competing within the Maltese drivers group.
 
Melo Zammit is the current leader in the Autocross Class A Championship. Christian Mark Galea on the Ritmo and Gordon Johnson on the Peugeot are placed 2nd and 3rd overall respectively. These placings may indicated strong competition during next event among the most keen drivers in the Championship.
 
Andrew Pisani on a Vauxhall Nova leads the Autocross Class B which also is highly competitive till the 5th event in a 12 events championship. Josef Grech on a Ford Fiesta and Josef Abela on a Vauxhall Nova are placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
 
Present Motocross champion Clayton Camilleri leads the Class A Motocross list followed by Paul Muscat who also rides a KTM 250cc as Camilleri. Stefan Dimech is placed 3rd on a Honda.
 
The Motocross Class B leader is young Kyle Camilleri on a Suzuki 85cc who is demonstrating very promising riding skills on the track. Kyle is followed by Pierre Jourdan on a 150cc KTM and by Hughston Ciantar on a Kawasaki 250cc.
 
On Saturday afternoon ASMK hold the training and practice sessions from 1.00pm onwards for the Autocross and Motocross riders. Spectators are invited to attend these practice sessions and entrance on Saturday is for free. More information is available on the official site www.asmk.org.mt/
