0.14% decrease in industrial producer price indices in October

Provisional data indicate that the industrial producer price index in October decreased by 0.14 per cent over the previous month.

During October, the producer price index for total industry decreased by 0.14 per cent to 95.14 points. While prices for intermediate goods dropped by 0.38 per cent, prices for consumer and capital goods increased by 0.10 and 0.01 per cent respectively. Energy prices remained constant.

Prices within the domestic market increased by 0.03 per cent on account of a rise within consumer goods of 0.10 per cent.

Prices for the non-domestic market decreased by 0.27 per cent as prices in respect of goods destined for the non-euro area and euro area dropped by 0.30 and 0.19 per cent respectively.

On an annual basis, the industrial producer price index decreased by 2.02 per cent. This resulted from price decreases in energy (-6.99 per cent), consumer goods (-2.06 per cent), and intermediate goods (-1.36 per cent). However, prices for capital goods increased by 1.54 per cent.

Producer prices for the domestic market decreased by 1.37 per cent, mainly on account of a drop in energy prices (-6.99 per cent). In contrast, price increases were recorded in capital goods (+3.49 per cent), intermediate goods (+1.14 per cent), and consumer goods (+0.92 per cent).

During the period under review, non-domestic prices decreased by 2.50 per cent, resulting from declines of 3.72 per cent and 0.41 per cent within the non-euro area and euro area respectively.
