Couple appear unfazed as they admit to pharmacy robbery
The couple pleaded guilty to the charges against them, being sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for three years
A foreign couple have been given suspended sentences after they admitted to breaking into and robbing a pharmacy on Tuesday afternoon.
Bartender Gianluca Calo, 37, from Italy, and hairdresser Elodie Moriceau, 22, from France, both residing in St Julian’s, appeared unperturbed in the dock as they were charged with breaking into a pharmacy in Mgarr, stealing €800 and causing €159 worth of damage to the shop.
Legal aid lawyer Patrick Valentino informed magistrate Charmaine Galea that the accused would be pleading guilty.
The court told the couple that it would be ordering them to repay the amounts stolen and reimburse the owner for the damage caused within six months.
“Yes of course, we work, she work. It should not be a problem,” Calo said.
The couple, who were handed a one-year prison sentence, suspended for three years, could not have appeared less concerned at being convicted, smiling and joking in the dock as their sentence was read out.
Police Inspector Nicholas Vella prosecuted.
