Police search for knife-wielding lotto booth robber

The robber is understood to have escaped with cash after holding up a lotto booth in San Gwann, earlier this afternoon.

Police are searching for a man in connection with the robbery of a lotto office at knifepoint in San Gwann earlier today.

Officers rushed to the scene after receiving a report of an armed robbery at the booth, at around 2:45 pm on Saturday.

The robber, who did not attempt to disguise his face, is understood to have threatened the 56 year-old woman behind the counter with a knife, demanding she hand over money from the till.

The assailant fled the scene with the stolen cash, together with an accomplice who was waiting for him outside the shop. The lotto receiver was not injured in the robbery.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace-Zammit has appointed several experts to assist her in her inquiry.
