Marsa start off well

As series wins goes they have only won six and therefore are just one ahead of the local team.  The years from 2005 till 2008 were their strongest years where they won four straight series, the best so far. The Marsa team will be looking to equal that run this year as well as the series totals.

On Thursday the first game was played where the home team amassed a very healthy score of 174 runs from twenty overs. At the half way mark they were only had 45 runs on the board.  Frank Spiteri after a very scratchy start proved why he is Malta's best batsmen and top scored with seventy two runs from fifty two balls which included seven fours and a six. Dhruv Duggal showed all that he is a powerhouse hitting fifty runs from just twenty four balls which included two fours and four sixes. Ronnie Sacco chipped in with twenty runs from eleven runs towards the end of the innings. The Marsa innings was aided with twenty one extras.  For SGS A.Jones and   M.Proctor were the main wicket takers with two each while D. Makinson took one.

In reply SGS could only muster up 124 runs from their twenty overs. M.Cox top scored with thirty five run, M.Schofield twenty one runs and M.Murphy nineteen runs. The wicket takers for the home team were Dhruv Duggal  with two , Ronnie Sacco , Joy Ghoseroy one each and the pick of the bowlers Dave Borg with three. Marsa go one up in the series.

On Saturday the second game was played. SGS batted first and from forty overs only made 159 runs. C.Marshall top scored with thirty three runs, M.Schfield thirty runs, M.Cox twenty runs and M.Murphy twenty runs. The wickets were spread among Andy Naudi 9two), Nowell Khosla, Dhruv Duggal , Kevin Krishna, Tony Slater and Sarfraz Ali (all one).

The Marsa team reached their target in the thirty sixth over. Early on John Rusher held one end so that his partner Nowell could go on to make forty six runs. Sunny Krishna did a fantastic job scoring fifty five runs while John Grima (nineteen runs) and Dhruv Duggal (eighteen runs) saw the home team to its second victory. A.Jones again impressed with the ball for SGS taking three wickets.. Marsa lead the series two to nil.

Next Saturday the Malta Select versus the Rest will play the third game while in the afternoon Overseas C.C take on Krishna C.C in the Summer league.
