A man accused of attempted grievous bodily harm in connection with last Friday’s shooting incident in Iklin has been remanded in custody after he made no request for bail.

36 year-old David Vella was arraigned on charges which included attempted grievous bodily harm on the person of Christopher Schembri, theft of cheques, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, discharging a firearm in a populated area and carrying a firearm in public without the permission of the Commissioner of Police.

It is understood that the two had argued during a meeting at a Notary’s office to settle a disagreement surrounding Schembri being given some unhonoured cheques by Vella

An altercation took place inside the office, which was followed up outside. During his arraignment yesterday Schembri claimed that Vella had fired shots in Schembri’s direction. Schembri retaliated with gunshots from a weapon he was carrying.
