Konrad Dimech, a 44-year-old from Saint Paul's has been remanded in custody, after he allegedly defrauded several foreigner nationals by renting out an apartment, and taking deposits on such apartments, which were not his or under his control.

The accused was arraigned in court on Tuesday in front of Magistrate Astrid May Grima.

Within months, a considerable amount of deposits were reported to the Police from several victims, who tried to rent an apartment after seeing his advert for letting on the internet, only to discover at a later stage that the apartment was being already rented out by legitimate persons.

Legal aid lawyer Raisa Colombo assisted Dimech. He pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him and was remanded in custody.

The prosecution was held by the Economic Crimes Squad, together with District Inspector Elton Taliana and Inspector Bernadette Valletta.

A police investigation is still ongoing.
