€800,000 on restoration of Mediterranean Conference Centre roof

€796,466, will be spent on the restoration of the roof of the Sacra Infermeria Hall within the Mediterranean Conference Centre, EU Funds parliamentary secretary Ian Borg announced.

85% of the expenditure on the old hospital will come out of an EU fund.

“Thanks to this restoration, the old hospital’s roof will be preserved, thereby safeguarding an important part of our cultural heritage,” Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said. “The stairs leading up to the roof of the Mediterranean Conference Centre will also be restored, and the plan is to open the roof up so that tourists will be able to enjoy a spectacular view of our majestic port.”  

Borg added that the project is being financed by the European Regional Development Fund 2007-2013 and as such must be completed by the end of the year.
