MUT refuses to negotiate extending school hours
MUT has made it clear that school times and times of work for teachers are regulated by an agreement that has been signed and the subject is not open for discussion.
The MUT was reacting to comments made by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech during a consultational meeting about the Budget on Tuesday morning regarding women receiving more help to facilitate the balance of family life and work.
The minister said that although this was not related to the Budget he was suggesting a reform in education to make it possible for mothers to get out into the working world. He said that it did not make sense that schools finished so early in the afternoon with so many extracurricular activities taking place in the evening. He said that the government was considering extending school hours till 4pm as it was it the past.
The MUT reassures teachers that it has no intention of opening new negotiations regarding school times and days and times of work will remain the same.
