Kavallieri throw down the gauntlet

Kavallieri Megaman Cisk Excell RFC held their AGM at the Clubhouse in Hamrun which issued a strong challenge to the rugby community, as Team Manager David Borg and Coach Patrizzio Allegrucci presented the policy for season 2010/2011, with the aim of winning top spot in all categories, and setting a high standard for Maltese rugby.

The announcement that the club is the first to appoint its own Director of Rugby is a major factor and former English Premier League player and coach Mr. Mat Emmerson is bound to have a big influence over the local rugby scene. Besides playing at top level, Mr. Emmerson has coached at high level in England, France and Canada.
In a brief introduction he emphasized that the Youth are the lifeblood of the game, that the Women’s rugby is crucial, and that the after match and off field social aspect is also very important indeed.
As a super fit man himself he emphasized the importance of consistent training and team dedication.

The club is adopting a tightly run business planning system as advised by the MRFU, aiming to expand membership and attract parents of youths. Online merchandise sales will be launched.

Under the guidance of Joe Cutajar, the Youth section has produced 15 new senior players for the coming season, and will continue its work within schools.
The Women, guided by Sue Bradley, are in a state of reviving after several senior players have retired and an early and strong recruitment drive will be important.

Among the new players Alex Brincat, a Maltese from Leicester, UK, who is an experienced utility back, may well bring much needed guidance for the strong but tactically naïve backline.

It could well be that the famed Kavallieri spirit will be instrumental in leading Maltese Rugby to even higher levels.
