The Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools is carrying out renovation works on a disused secondary school in Zebbug, aimed at converting it to a new primary education institution.

The new school, in which €800,000 has been invested, will feature increased accessibility for disabled pupils and staff, a childcare centre on the ground floor and a learning support centre on the upper floor. The project “will be finalised on time and within budget,” according to a statement released by the Ministry for Employment and Education this afternoon. The new school is expected to open its doors to students in September.

Schools across the Maltese Islands are also benefiting from maintenance works, thanks to a €3million government investment, said Education Minister Evarist Bartolo. Bartolo described the projects as being “crucial to the continuing improvement of the educational experience offered to children.”

Several structural changes have been made to the school, including the addition of a lift, new toilets and an underground tunnel linking it to the current primary school building. New water and electricity services are also to be installed, together with a number of cosmetic improvements.

A significant investment has been made to ensure the school is equipped with interactive whiteboards, computers and other learning aids, together with improved sports facilities, the ministry said.
