St Hubert Hunters called on environmental NGO BirdLife Malta mark boundaries of the Ghadira Bird Sanctuary and other protected sites.

The hunters' call comes in the wake of the publication of images by BirdLife showing two hunters inside the protected area.

"Notwithstanding proof to the contrary, further to the Birdlife Malta's insistence on two hunters being within the Ghadira Bird Sanctuary protected zone on April 25, we strongly suggest that the boundary of this and their other reserves known as the protective no-hunting zones, be marked with some appropriate easily distinguishable signage," St Hubert Hunters said. They also noted that substantial areas adjoining these zones are land reserved for hunting.

"Unless BirdLife Malta is after sensationalizing any inadvertent trespass our suggestion should be implemented for the benefit of all concerned. As things stand these vast unmarked areas can only be termed as traps set for the unwary hunter used by Birdlife Malta to depict hunters as lawless untrustworthy citizens."
